Building a Top-10 tech podcast from a lean mobile MVP
How I turned a non-technical consultant's idea into a lean media platform that scaled into a Top-10 UK/EU tech network and just under £1.5M in attributed sales.

Section 01 — The Vision
Stop selling. Start contributing.
A recruitment consultant within the firm spotted an unaddressed pain point: early-stage tech startups viewed traditional agencies with skepticism. To build genuine trust, the firm needed to stop selling and start contributing. The consultant proposed a podcast on the raw reality of building a startup - scaling friction, hiring bottlenecks, funding hurdles, cultural growing pains. But they had zero technical knowledge of audio production, RSS syndication, or web deployment. Recognising the strategic value of the idea, I stepped in to lead the technical discovery, product strategy, and operational blueprint that turned the raw concept into a scalable media asset.

Section 02 — A Lean 'Guerrilla' MVP
Treat the city's tech hubs as the studio.
To bypass high studio overheads and lengthy timelines, I designed a nimble production workflow we called 'guerrilla podcasting'. Instead of building a rigid production environment, we met startup founders exactly where they already operated: local coffee shops and co-working spaces. The infrastructure was intentionally lean yet professional - so we could move fast, keep costs low, and capture honest, unguarded conversations.
The MVP
Lean, mobile, and professional.
Hardware: high-fidelity digital microphones hooked directly into an iPhone. Post-production: a standardised workflow to 'top and tail' raw recordings with branded intro/outro music and promotional idents. Syndication: a robust hosting and distribution architecture that automatically pushed the audio feed to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and alternative directory networks.
"We met founders exactly where they already worked - turning coffee shops and co-working spaces into our studio."
Section 03 — Web Development & Accessibility
Treat the website as a real product.
While the audio lived on major platforms, the centralised hub was the custom web application we built around it. I insisted on treating the site not as a landing page, but as a fully accessible web product - one that maximised search visibility and ensured universal digital inclusion.
Step 1
WCAG compliance
Strict alignment with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines so the site was fully navigable by screen readers and assistive technology - inclusion built in, not bolted on.
Section 04 — The 4-Year Scaling Roadmap
Play the long game.
Media products don't become commercial engines overnight. From the start, we mapped this as a 3-to-4-year strategic lifecycle - solidifying the core, capturing long-tail SEO, expanding into rich media, then converting authority into physical engagement.
- 1Year 1
Audio MVP
Solidify the core audio footprint and master the decentralised production process.
- iPhone + mic setup
- Coffee-shop interviews
- 2Year 2
Web Platform
Leverage the accessible web platform to capture long-tail SEO from founders searching for solutions to scaling issues.
- Full web transcripts
- WCAG compliance added
- 3Year 3
Network Scaling
Transition from audio-only into rich media, spinning off the flagship show into 'Tech Flex' video and short-form TikTok channels.
- 'Tech Flex' video series
- Live in-person events
- 4Year 4
Commercial Engine
Convert online authority into physical engagement and revenue - regular, highly attended live events for the startup community.
- £1.5M attributed sales
- Top 10 UK/EU tech chart
Section 05 — Commercial Results & Impact
From experiment to acquisition channel.
The project evolved from a simple audio experiment into one of the firm's primary business-development and strategic building blocks - turning the firm from an external vendor into a respected insider within the startup community.
"We turned a raw, non-technical idea into a multi-year revenue driver and an industry institution."
- Attributed sales revenue
- ~£1.5MAttributed sales revenue
- UK & EU technology podcast
- Top 10UK & EU technology podcast
- Podcast, video, TikTok & live events
- Multi-channelPodcast, video, TikTok & live events
Direct financial return
By fostering deep, trust-based relationships with high-growth companies before they scaled, the sales team attributed just under £1.5M in revenue to the ecosystem.
Chart-topping dominance
The flagship show secured a place among the Top 10 technology podcasts across the UK and Europe, giving the firm unparalleled media authority.
Strategic core asset
Today the unified network of podcasts, video series, TikTok channels, and live events stands as the company's premier commercial acquisition channel.

The Bottom Line
Mentor, scope lean, then scale.
This project shows what happens when you mentor a non-technical stakeholder, design a lean MVP, hold the line on technical and accessibility compliance, and play the long game for commercial scale. A guerrilla podcast became a Top-10 network and a £1.5M acquisition engine - one disciplined phase at a time.
